Meet the people behind this location
Since 2007, Mike and Denise, along with adult children Shawn and Candace, have been serving up sweetness, one scoop at a time, to delighted residents in and around Agoura, CA. Today, they not only own and operate their original Agoura store, but a second store in Westlake Village, as well as a fully-equipped production kitchen, distributing authentic gelato, artisanal chocolates, and other Tifa staples to several franchise locations.
When CEO Mike started Tifa Chocolate & Gelato over a decade ago, he wanted a business that would allow him to spend more time with his family, as well as create an extended family of team members and guests. Denise channeled her experience as a paralegal into the detail-oriented task of managing logistics.
Shawn, with his buoyant personality, was the perfect choice for connecting with the community through hosted chocolate tasting events, and later, acting as the lead of franchise sales and the full-service liaison to franchisees. He facilitates training and opening new locations, and helps each franchise owner make decisions that will lead to success for their store and the Tifa brand as a whole.
While Candace was happy to help her parents in whatever way she could at the outset, her creative nature and love of the culinary arts eventually led to pastry and baking degrees from Le Cordon Bleu, as well as a GTI Gelato Certification. Today, she serves as the head pastry chef, creating recipes and menus and managing interior and graphic design.
Each member of the family has their own special skills and experiences to contribute, but all entered the business with similar goals – to create a welcoming setting for families to connect over tantalizing, gourmet treats while forming treasured memories. At Tifa Chocolate & Gelato, there’s a focus not only on the quality of the food but the experience that goes along with it. The fact that Mike, Denise, Shawn, and Candace get to take this journey together only makes their success that much sweeter.
When Mike and Denise aren’t busy keeping Tifa up and running, they enjoy spending time with their beloved grandchildren, as well as two dogs and a hamster. Mike also likes to relax on the water with a fishing pole.
Shawn enjoys spending time with his wife, Holly, daughter, Tatum, and son, Maddox. He and Maddox get out on the fishing boat with Mike whenever they can, and Shawn loves outdoor fitness activities ranging from surfing and scuba diving, to rock climbing and more. Candace spends her free time hiking with her dog, George, and she collects vintage dishes, including cake plates.
The whole family enjoys giving back through a range of charitable organizations and endeavors. They frequently donate products and gift cards for raffles, they proudly partner with local charities, schools, and religious organizations, and they support larger charity organizations like Autism Speaks and LOHADA, a non-profit organization in Tanzania committed to empowering impoverished children and families through education.
